Has anyone done this with their dogs yet? I know it is mostly for sight hounds. We have a club here that lets any breed join in. Tomorrow I entered my dogs in for the final trials! They have no practices since we haven't been able to go due to weather. I'd be cool if they could place and win a prize, but I'm more excited to just let them run free and Sasha is such a fast runner! I'm not sure if Harley will get the concept, trust me I racked my brains to think of how to use his rock as a lure...but I know it's just too big and heavy

We actually lure race with our dogs in our All-Breed club. My female is so mellow and pretty much lazy about everything. She pulls extremely slow and barely even trots on the treadmill but she loves Lure Racing! Before I ever tried her at it, she got to see the other dogs running and every time she'd see the lure take off she'd try to run along with it. Just yesterday we were all out at the county fair promoting our club and doing demos and no matter how tired Reagan was she still wanted to chase the lure! It was the cutest thing, until she managed to catch the lure midway back and cut her gums on the string.
As for tips or advice, I personally cannot think of anything. I just let my dogs be able to see the other dogs race, I think that's how they pick it up. Most dogs will just chase on instinct. If at all possible, go out to your club and train if they let you before the show! Good luck.
Here's a video from our July show:

Ahhh... very fun. I see your course is set up a bit different then what ours will be. I guess they have a 2 acre fenced in area and the lure goes in a circle in it... so a bit longer... but looks fun none the less. I am going to try to let my dogs watch it for a bit if I can find a spot away from the other dogs. There are going to be small dogs there also and will have to keep Harley far away from them....
Hopefull I can hold one at the same time of videoing the other doing it... lol (videoing? is that a word?? ) _________________

I just looked at the link you posted and you're right-wayyy different setup. I wonder if my dogs would still chase the lure? I'd be worried about them turning around and running off in some random direction.

Yeah... I think that is part of it. They have stuffed animals.. like a penguin in the middle of the field and some dogs go towards it. I guess just to make it more difficult? That is why I don't want the plastic bag as a lure... and Harley is scared of them lmaoooo... but they do have a rabbit fur you can request. I think I'll use that instead! _________________

We usually have the plastic bad lure as well and occasionally a fur one.

Well, the dogs loved it! They had a plastic bag and 2 rabbit furs as a lure. The only problem I came across was where the lure veers into some high weeds and the owners husband was back there taking pictures... neither of my dogs wanted anything to do with the weeded area
